Dear Portkey community members,

We are thrilled to let you know that Portkey has been updated to V1.3.5 for Android and extension users as of 12:00 AM (UTC), August 30. In the latest update, Portkey has made a couple of important improvements to enhance the user experience and ensure a safer Web3 experience for all users, including reducing the manual selection of verifiers during the sign-up process and adding a “session key” for DApp interaction.

Assignment of decentralised verifiers for Portkey sign-up

A verifier is an important role in Portkey’s social recovery design which provides external verification services. However, new users may have a hard time understanding what verifiers are and how to choose one. To address this, Portkey has streamlined the sign-up process in this latest version, eliminating the need for manual verifier selection. Instead, a decentralised verifier will be randomly assigned to the signing-up user which takes place on-chain. The simplified sign-up process lowers the threshold even more for users, especially those from Web2, to join Web3.

Addition of the session key for DApp interactions

In Portkey V1.3.5, a new feature called “session key” is introduced to enhance DApp interactions for users. This feature allows users to approve transaction requests automatically while using DApp eliminating the need for repetitive transaction approvals, and restores protection for users when the session key expires. Aiming at optimising user experience in every detail, Portkey leads the trend of wallet and DApp interactions.

During the setup process, users can customise the expiration time for the session key, ranging from 1 hour to never expiring with 1 hour set by default. Once activated and while connected to the DApp, users can enjoy a seamless experience without being asked to approve transactions again and again. Whenever they want to turn the session key off or modify the time, users can manually change the settings in the “My — Wallet Security — Connected Sites” section.

After the session key reaches its expiration time, users can choose whether to activate it again or not upon their next transaction via a pop-up window. This session key feature not only streamlines DApp interactions but also provides users with more control over their account security.

In addition to these improved or newly-added features, Portkey continually expands its supported regions to enable global signup via phone number.

Overall, Portkey V1.3.5 focuses on providing a more streamlined, accessible, and secure Web3 experience for a wider range of users, with improvements in verifier assignment, transaction approval, and global accessibility.
